PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM KICKS-OFF SUMMER NIGHT WINGS PROGRAM THIS SATURDAY

Tucson, July 20, 2016 –The Pima Air & Space Museum will kick-off its summer evening “Night Wings” program this Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 5-9pm.

At this Saturdays “Night Wings”, The Pima Air & Space Museum will debut its new Seek, Do & Win – Activity Stations. These hands-on educational activity stations will be stationed throughout the museum hangars/grounds. At the Aircraft Materials Station, guest will get to explore and touch different materials that aircraft are made out of and then be asked to look around and determine the materials used on the aircraft around them. In the Dorothy Finley Space Gallery, guest will get to participate in the Programming Robots Station, where they will learn about programming using markers and small Ozobot Robots that can sense the color drawn on paper.

“We are very excited about these new Seek, Do & Win – Activity Stations” said Mina Stafford, Curator of Education at the Pima Air & Space Museum. “Not only are they fabulous STEM based hands-on activity stations for children they are appealing to our guest of all ages.”

In addition to the hands-on educational activity stations, A-10 Pilots from Davis Monthan Air Force Base will be at the museum with some of their equipment on display and be available to talk with guests about their life as a pilot. The University of Arizona and Planetary Science Institute will also have a Space Science Section to explore. The museums outdoor display grounds will be open till dusk and 3 of the museums hangars will be open until 8:45pm.

“It truly is a remarkable time and opportunity to visit the museum” said Scott Marchand, Executive Director of the Pima Air & Space Museum. “There is something for everyone at "Night Wings and nothing quite like exploring our 300 amazing planes contrasted by the setting sun!” Discounted evening admission of $10 starts at 4:00pm, with kids 12 and under FREE. Great food—burgers, salads, pizza and ice cream—will be for sale in The Fight Grill. There will be one more 2016 “Night Wings” summer evening events this year on August 27, 5-9pm (the 4th Saturday of the month).

PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM TO ROLL BACK ADMISSION PRICES IN HONOR OF 40TH ANNIVERSARY

Tucson, May 3, 2016 –40 years ago this Sunday, the Pima Air & Space Museum opened its doors to the public for the first time. In honor of its 40th Anniversary the museum will roll back admission prices to its opening day rates for one day only, this Sunday, May 8, 2016! All adults 13 and older will be $1.50 and all children 12 and under will be $.50. To get in on the rollback pricing the museums restaurant, Flight Grill, will offer a 40th Anniversary special for the day of a hot dog, small fries and fountain drink, all for the low price of $1.00!

After 10 years of planning, on May 8, 1976 the Pima Air Museum opened its doors to the public with nothing more than a small ticket trailer, an initial collection of 48 aircraft and a chain-link fence surrounding the grounds. Over the past 40 years the museum has grown to now encompass over 250,000 square feet of interior display space on over 80 acres of outside display grounds, boasting over 325 aircraft and 125,000 artifacts in the collection!

“If it wasn’t for the vision of our original founders and then the determination and devotion of the staff, volunteers, board members, museum members, community leaders and donors the museum would not be where it is today and experiencing the positive growth that we are” said Chairman of the Arizona Aerospace Foundation, Count Ferdinand von Galen. “It is truly remarkable to stop and reflect on the past 40 years!”

The museum has spent the past 40 years acquiring some of the rarest, as well as most diverse aircraft collection in the world. Alone, this past year the museum acquired a Boeing 787 Dreamliner from The Boeing Company, making it one of only three on public display throughout the world. Within the next month the museum will open its sixth display hangar, Hangar 5, which will add an additional 27,000 square-foot of interior display space and be devoted to WWII and Pacific Theater aircraft, including a B-26 Marauder and a P-47 Thunderbolt. “The past 40 years have been quite impressive” said the Pima Air & Space Museum, Executive Director, Scott Marchand, “but the future is just as bright for the Pima Air & Space Museum!”

LOTS TO SEE AT THE PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM THIS WEEKEND

Tucson, November 5, 2015 –If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend – the Pima Air & Space Museum has two different offerings sure to delight. On Saturday, November 7 the museum will host a historic military vehicle show entitled “Wings and Wheels.” This impressive annual display of jeeps, trucks and motorcycles is a partnership between the Southern Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club and the Pima Air & Space Museum. There will be more than 20 historic military vehicles on display under the wings of many iconic airplanes plus enthusiastic club members in authentic uniforms to share their knowledge.

Also, in partnership with the Tucson Radio Control Club the museum is able to bring you on both Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 a display of nearly 30 to scale plastic model airplanes and aircraft carriers. Some of the scale models on display will be over 6 feet in length with wingspans of the likes.

“These shows are a perfect way to augment our collection,” states Scott Marchand Executive Director of the Pima Air & Space Museum. Marchand continued, “With these clubs participation, it’s a great opportunity to make, as we say ‘history come to life’ for our visitors.”

Both shows are free with paid admission to the Museum.

PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM LOWERS ENTRY FEE FOR ITS NIGHT OF FRIGHT

Tucson, October 20, 2015 –The Pima Air & Space Museum is lowering the admission price to $10 for its fifth annual “Night of Fright” this Friday, October 23rd from 5 to 9pm (with the last admission at 8pm).

This family friendly, non-scary, Halloween event features:

• “trick or treating”
• pony rides
• “ghoulish” games (“Eyeball Mini Putt- Putt,” “Ghost Bowling,” “Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss”)
• a baked goods walk
• Halloween tattoos
• plus viewing the airplanes and exhibits in their Main Hangar

The Flight Grill restaurant, will transform into Fright Grill for the evening, as it offers a free scoop of Thrifty ice cream with any regularly priced entrée.

“We are pleased to provide a safe Halloween environment for our community’s little ghouls and goblins” said Scott Marchand, the Executive Director of the Pima Air & Space Museum. Marchand continued, “It is exciting to host our 5th year of this fun event, which gets bigger and better every year!”

Admission to this one-night carnival and costume event is free for museum members and children 12 and under, and $10 for anyone age 13 and older.
