PIMA AIR & SPACE MUSEUM KICKS-OFF SUMMER NIGHT WINGS PROGRAM THIS SATURDAY

Tucson, July 20, 2016 –The Pima Air & Space Museum will kick-off its summer evening “Night Wings” program this Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 5-9pm.

At this Saturdays “Night Wings”, The Pima Air & Space Museum will debut its new Seek, Do & Win – Activity Stations. These hands-on educational activity stations will be stationed throughout the museum hangars/grounds. At the Aircraft Materials Station, guest will get to explore and touch different materials that aircraft are made out of and then be asked to look around and determine the materials used on the aircraft around them. In the Dorothy Finley Space Gallery, guest will get to participate in the Programming Robots Station, where they will learn about programming using markers and small Ozobot Robots that can sense the color drawn on paper.

“We are very excited about these new Seek, Do & Win – Activity Stations” said Mina Stafford, Curator of Education at the Pima Air & Space Museum. “Not only are they fabulous STEM based hands-on activity stations for children they are appealing to our guest of all ages.”

In addition to the hands-on educational activity stations, A-10 Pilots from Davis Monthan Air Force Base will be at the museum with some of their equipment on display and be available to talk with guests about their life as a pilot. The University of Arizona and Planetary Science Institute will also have a Space Science Section to explore. The museums outdoor display grounds will be open till dusk and 3 of the museums hangars will be open until 8:45pm.

“It truly is a remarkable time and opportunity to visit the museum” said Scott Marchand, Executive Director of the Pima Air & Space Museum. “There is something for everyone at "Night Wings and nothing quite like exploring our 300 amazing planes contrasted by the setting sun!” Discounted evening admission of $10 starts at 4:00pm, with kids 12 and under FREE. Great food—burgers, salads, pizza and ice cream—will be for sale in The Fight Grill. There will be one more 2016 “Night Wings” summer evening events this year on August 27, 5-9pm (the 4th Saturday of the month).

The Pima Air & Space Museum

The Pima Air & Space Museum is one of the largest aviation museums in the world, and the largest non- government funded aviation museum in the United States. The museum maintains a collection of more than 300 aircraft and spacecraft from around the globe—including many rare and one-of-a-kind—and more than 125,000 artifacts. Exhibits at the museum include some of the world’s greatest aviation heritage, including military, commercial and civil aviation. Among them are the SR-71 Blackbird—the world’s fastest plane, a B-29 Superfortress—the highest flying and fastest WWII bomber, and a rare World War II German V-1 "buzz bomb." The museum has five large hangars totaling more than 177,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space. Pima Air & Space maintains its own aircraft restoration center, and also offers exclusive tours of the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG), also known as the "Bone Yard" (across from the museum at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base).

The Pima Air & Space Museum is located at 6000 E. Valencia Road, Tucson, Exit 267 off Interstate 10. The museum is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with last admission at 4 p.m. Admission is $15.50 ($12.25 for Pima County Residents) for adults, $12.75 for seniors 62 and older and active military, $9.00 for youth 7-12, and free for children under 6.
